Of The 20th Cairo International Festival

For Experimental Theatre

The Jury of the Cairo International Festival for experimental Theatre was composed as follows:

The International Jury watched during the period from the 10th to the 20th of October 2008 a number of performances that amounted to (25) presented by various group representing (23) countries taking part in the official contest of the festival .

In (4) meetings, the jury discussed extensively the performances participating in the official contest. It voted in the final meeting on the nominees for each of the six awards and it is now my pleasure, on behalf of all the jury members, to announce the winners as well as the nominees:

For this award, the jury nominated the following"

 

Black Coffee (Ahwa Sada) presented Cultural Development Fund – Egypt.

 

Sub-Zero presented by National Group of Acting-Iraq.

 

Grasping the floor with the back of my head presented by Mute Comp. Physical Theatre-Denmark.

Award for Best Directing

 

For this award, the jury nominated the following:

 

Emad Mohamed for director of Sub – Zero presented by National group of Acting – Iraq.

 

Khaled Gala the director of Black Coffee (Ahwa Sada) presented by Cultural Development Fund - Egypt.

 

Ezz Eldin Abar the director of Fake presented by Al-Gawahi Theatre "Sidi Belabas" –Algeria.

 

 

The award goes to:

Award for best Actress

 

For this award, the jury nominated the following :

Sigrid Husjord for her role in Grasping the Floor with the Black of my head presented by Mute Comp. Physical Theatre-Denmark.

The three actresses Henrieta Rabova, Slavka Daubnerova, and Jana Lieskouska for their roles in shake Shakespeare Macbeth presented by The Poton theatre-Slovakia.

Rama Al-Isa for her role in Laila and the Wolf presented by The Circle-Syria.

Award for Best Actor

 

For this award, the jury nominated the following:

The two actors Abdel Satar El Basri and Yehia Ibrahim for their role in sub- Zero Presented by The National Group of Acting- Iraq

Francois Abu Salem for his role in Une Memoire Pour L oubli ( A Memory for Forgetfulness ) presented by El Hakawati- Palestine  

Abd Allah Gallab for his role in fake presented by Al- Gahawi Theatre ( Sidi Belabas ) – Algeria

  

The award jointly goes to:

Award for Best Scenography

 

For this award, the jury nominated:

Award for Best Ensemble

 

For this award, the jury nominated:

Aunt Safia And the Monastery presented by Cultural Development Fund - Egypt.

Drums -4 Dances Presented by Opolski Teatr Lalki Aktora- Poland

The jury Wouldlike to thank the group of interpreters who exerted so much effort so that the task of the jury would be accomplished effectively.

 

And finally the jury salutes all the performing groups and thanks them for all the enthusiasm, energy and courage which they showed us in the festival. It also thanks the administration. May it be strengthened and encouraged by the growing success of this event which also serves to promote mutual understanding, respect and creativity among the nations of the world.
