Alexander Stillmark

-A distinguished theatre director.

- Studied acting in Berlin and worked immediately after his graduation in a number of the biggest German theatres.

- Directed many performances based upon texts by such international writers as Brecht, Muller, Ibsen, Schiller, Neruda, and Shakespeare.

- Took part in the “Theatre of Nations” Festival held in Poland in 1975.

-Organized and led so many international theatre workshops in several countries such as Germany, Chile, Egypt, India, Bangladesh, and Uruguay.

Paul Sha’oul

 

-         A poet, playwright, critic, translator, and journalist.

-         Wrote a number of plays such as Al-Motamaredda (1974), Al-Halaba (1995), and Al-Za’er (1995).

-         Translated into Arabic various works; amongst them are: Samuel Beeket’s End Game and Waiting for Godot, he also translated a larhge number of French poems into Arabic.

-         His poetic writings include Boslatt Al-Damm (1977), Awraq Al-Gha’eb (1992), Mandil Utail (2002), and others. A lot of such poems have been translated into French, English, Swedish, Spanish, and German.

-         Authored several studies and reviews on Arabic poetry.

-         Took pary as a furor in such Arab festivals as the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre, Carthage Festival in Tunisia, Kuwait Festival, and Jordan Festival.

-         An active participant in many Arab and international festivals held in Cairo, Damascus, Kuwait, Jordan, Paris, and Marseilles.

- Chaired the cultural sections in various Lebanese and Arab fournals. Amongst them are: Al-mostaqbal, Al- Mawqef, Al-Arabi, Al-safir, and Al-nahaar.

Jack Reuler

- A distinguished playwright, theatre director and producer.

- Leader of a number of non-profit regional theatres for 25 years, Amongst his responsibilities are selection of programming, casting, hiring design/ production teams, dramaturgy, and training/ educational programs.

- A specialist in management promotion, and marketing, particularly in the fields of culture, arts, and media,

- A member of a several committees concerned with supporting and funding arts.

- took part in many conferences, symposiums, and seminars held by such international Universities as University of California, College of St. Catherine, University of St. Thomas, Macalester College and University of Minnesota.

- Contributed as a writer in a number of renowned journals, St. paul Dispatch, Minnesota Daily, and American Theater.

- Produced and directed a lot of successful performances such as A Jew on Ethiopia Street, Dialling M.for Murder, Black Eagle, Birth of the Boom, World Shoes, Other people’s Money, Wall of Water, The Grapes of Wrath, and so many others.

- Won several awards and prizes in recognition of his outstanding accomplishments in the domain of culture and arts.

Joan Abellan

-A well-known theatre critic, and playwright.

-A professor of theatre studies at the Institute of Theatre in Barcelona where he is in charge of research coordination.

-Author of a lot of books on theatre and criticism. Amongst his publications are Els Joglars, Boal cuenta Boal, Els artistes plastics de L’EADAG and Artaudi el teatre.

-Created several plays in the catalonian language, most of which have won distiguished awards and presented on the stages of the best international theatres..

Roger Arteel

-  A writer, critic, and theatre historian.

- Studied modern languages, then he turned to political- social studies, However, he became an educator at a secondary school, Meanwhile, he took courses in drama and directing and was active in experimental amateurism as in “Dog Theatre”

- Worked as a theatre critic for Knack magazine (Brussels) and for radio 2 (west- Flanders), but he stopped these activities in 2001.

- Translated into Dutch a number of plays such as Le numero by Pierre Roudy and Alice dans les jardins de Luxembourg by Romain Weingarten.

- Published in 2002 verkavelde scene, the first volume of his collected papers.

- Currently, he is an editor of the web-site www.theatermagazine.be and a member of the ITI and of the International Association of Theatre Critics

Soheir al-Morshedy

-         An outstanding theatre, movie, and TV actress.

-         Graduated from the Higher Institute for Theatrical Arts.

-         Took part in a very large number of theatrical works, movies, TV Series and in other works for the radio.

-         For theatre, she played the leading roles in such works as: Ya Tale’ al-Sahgara, Macbeth, Al-Maraya, Fi sabil Al- Horreyya, Zoqaq Al-Midaq, Al-Hobb fi Haretna, Roud Al-Farag, Al –Nesr Al-Ahmar, Isis, Awdet Al-Ard, Al-hamy wa Al-Haramy, Salome, Rehla Khareg Al-Sur, Miss Julia, and many others,

-         For TV, she participated in several series; amongst them are: Al-Halawani, Shagarat Al-Dorr, Alflaila wa laila, Arabesque, and layaly Al-Helmeyya.

-         Her works for the rakio ar considered as masterpieces. Amongst such works are: Shafiqa wa Metwally, Maa Al-Zakerin, and Zeinanb.

-         As a distinguished movie actress, she took part in lot of films such as Al-Moshaghenb, Shantet Hamza, Al-Zawga Al-thaniya,, Gazirat Al-Oshaq, Al- Sayyid Al-Bolty, Yarab Touba, Mutawea wa Bahiyya, Kaddabin Al-Zaffa, and others.

Abdel Rahman Abu Zahra

- A distinguished theatre, movies and TV actor.

- Immediately after his graduation from the Higher Institute for Theatrical Arts in 1959, he jained the National Theatre.

- Introduced and launched two theatrical experiments: he was the first to show the monodrama on stage when he performed Saadeddin Wahba’s play Nady Al-nofous Al-Ariya (The Naked Souls’Club) directed by Abkel Ghaffar Ouda, and he also introduced the Coffee shop theatre with hid experiment Enny A’taredd (I Pbject) authored by Nagui George and directed by Saila Saad. It was resented at Matatia Coffee shop.

-Directed for the National Theatre two plays: matloof 71 by Ossman Galal and Awdett Al-Roug (Return of the Soul) by Tawfiq Al-Hakim.

-Took part as an actor in a large number of plays such as Diwan Al-Baqqar, Al-Mahrousa, Bir As-Sellem, Al-Hussayn Tha’eran, Al-farafir, Al-Mahzala Al-Ardiya, Hamlet, Sett Al-Molk, and so many others.

Fernando Balestra

- A playwright, critic, director, and theatre and movie producer.

- Obtained a Ph.D in Classical Setters in 1974/75 from Rome University La Sapienza.

- Started his career as a playwright in 1970 with a drama (The Death of job) directed by pino Di Buduo, the founder of the potlatch Group, one of the most important experimental groups in Europe.

- As a theatre critic, he published a lot of articles, essays, and books, he also collaborated with Stage, the most important Italian theatre magazine.

- His first work as a director was play by Samuel Becket, presented in 1973.

- Started as a theatre producer in 1976 with an experimental version of Macbeth

- Worked for cinema and television while continuing to write texts and direct experimental performances.

-Directed the Umbria Fiction Festival in 1992 and 1994, created in 1993 the Christmas Concert for the Vatican, and in 1994, he organized in the streets of bagnoreggio the great event the Street 1954 – 1994, based on the famous film by Federico Fellini.

-Was appointed in 2004 Counsellor of the Board of Directors of the National Institute of Ancient Drama Foundation. In 2005, he became Superintendent of the foundation.

Mary Elias

 

-     A writer, critic, translator, and professor of literature and theatre.

-     Obtained her ph.D in theatre studies from France. She is currently a professor in the Department of French Literature in the Faculty of Arts, Damascus University, She also chaired the department in the academic year 2003 – 2004.

-     Worked as an editor in Al-Hayat theatre magazine, issued by the Syrian Ministry of Culture and has been a member of the editorial board of the Damascus Universty Magazine since 2002.

-     Took part as the chairperson of the jury in the Carthage Days Theatre Festival in 2001.

-         Introduced and planned for the project of developing the school theatre in collaboration with the Syrian Ministry of Education.

-     Author of a number of books such as Tamareen fi Al-Kitaba Al-Kramaturgiya wa Al-Irtijal (Excercises in Dramaturgy and Improvisation) a co-authoring with Dr. Hanan Qassaab, Al-Mo’jamm Al-Ard (Dictionary of Theatre: Terms of Theatre and Performing Arts), a co-authoring with Dr, Hanan Qassaab.

-    Translated a number of works into Arabic and other Arabic masterpieces into French.

-Published a lot of studies and critical writings in various magazines and periodicals.

The Name of: Nabil Bakran

-An outstanding writer and critic.

-Started his career as a journalist while he was still a student in the Department of Drama and Criticism, the Higher Institute for Theatrical Arts from which he graduated in 1965 after writing his play Al-Soud, published later in a book in 1966.

-Started his career as a playwright preferring the genre pf the political cabaret when he wrote his play Al- Baad Ya’koloonaha Wal’a in 1968.

-Amongst yhe successful plays he created are the following Intabihu Ayyoha Al-sada, Alam Aly Baba, Goha Baa Himaroh, politixa, Lil Amam Qeff, Bye Bye yaArab, Ayyam Loulou & Shoushou, and his sast play Carnival Al-Darawish.

-His works are characterized by a certain vision unveiling the Arab social and political life, He was always in support of the idea of th “poor Theatre” that depends on the simple dramatic structures and the minimal elements of décor.

-Worked in several Arab papers and journals in Kuwait,Iraq, an Syuia, He chaired the theatre section in th Egyptian Wekly Akher Saa.

-Authored a book on criticism entitled The Independent Theatre Companies: Theatre of the Future.

-Took part as a juror in the pre-selection Committee of the Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre.

Jerzy Zelnik

 

-         A remowned actress, playwright, director and teacher.

-         Graduated in 1968 from the Academy of theatre in Warsaw However, he started his artistic career while he was still in the third year when he played the leaking role of Ramses XIII in the successful movie pharaoh.

-     Worked in one of the most important polish theatres, I,e, the Old Theatre in Krakow.

-     Introduced new ways and visions while approaching theatrical performances; an enterprise which encouraged a lot of polish experimental theatre groups to invite him as their guest of honor.

-     Took part in about 37 plays in which he created certain patterns of characterization combining the bodily skills and verbal expressions.

-  Participated also in more than 70 movie and TV woks his performance in a number of plays.
