The original idea behind the Aswan international symposium for sculpture was to group sculptors in Aswan, giving them a space for creativity. The idea developed into the establishment of an open museum to expose their creations, then further into a permanent atelier. Famous artists from all over the world meet in Aswan, inspired by a positive spirit and a strong will, in its symposium. Aswan was the choice d’excellence, for its wealth of granite stones, it boasts of history and civilization. Here the art languages unite, and cooperation prevails, stimulating the Egyptian culture, and showing the world the glory of the Egyptian sculpture in hard rocks transforming it’s rigidity into plastic forms speaking of provocative art. The symposium started at 1996, and we are currently celebrating it’s 14 th version. |

Aswan International Symposium for Sculpture restored the art of sculpture in granite. An art that faded by time, with very scarce individual exceptions. That hard stone surrendered to the ancient Egyptian artist hands, and showed it’s flexibility under his touches, allowing him to use it in building the most prominent and important civilization of mankind.
