Speech of the President of the International Jury for Long and Short Feature  Films.

On behalf of the International Jury for Long and Short Feature Films I would like first to thank the Minister of Culture, Faruk Hosni, and the President of the Festival,Dr. Fawzi Fahmy, for inviting us to Cairo to take part.

For most of us this was our first visit to Egypt and we have had a wonderful time. We discovered a vibrant, fascinating, welcoming city, whose people were everywhere open and friendly. As for the sights , what can I say—The pyramids ,the museums, the mosques ,the bazaars  and Alexandria with its beautiful Bibliotique , above all  perhaps the Nile itself – These we have heard about all our lives .  To experience them in the flash is a revelation .

But we came here to work, of course, and the staff of the Festival, led by their energetic Director Soheir Kadeir, have laboured tirelessly throughout to make our task not only possible but enjoyable. We would like to thank them too.

And so to the films. In the context of a children's festival we were wholly agreed that the films should be produced for children and not merely about them, However, as President of the jury it gives me satisfaction to say that not only were we able to make our awards with confidence but that in most cases the  choice was (eventually!) unanimous.

At this point I would like to thank my colleagues on the jury for the committed, professional manner in which they approached their task, always mindful, and respectful, of the duty we had undertaken to perform.

I will now announce the results:

Speech of the President of the International Jury for Animation and TV programs

As president of the International Jury for Animation and TV programs, I speak on behalf of the nine of us who saved on the Animation and Programs jury.

We would like to express our thanks ….

First, to Cairo for being such a wonderful host city.  You are full of warm, friendly people, your weather is delightful; and your choreographed traffic patterns are incredible!  But I will wait until my next visit to Cairo to even think about driving here!  But I do hope to be invited again, because it is impossible to see all of your amazing sites in just one visit.

Our thanks also to the Cairo International Film Festival, under the auspices of the Minister of Culture Mr. Farouk Hosny and the president Dr. Fawzi Fahmi.   This 16th festival must be the best ever, because it has been so fantastic.  The quality of shows submitted made it very difficult to select the prize winners.

The choice amongst Arabic submissions was especially difficult to make.  We encourage producers of Arabic programming to continue participating in this festival and to submit even more programming in years to come.

Our special thanks to Mme. Sohair Abdul Qader for her hard work and effective leadership as Director of the festival.  She has a difficult job but carries it out effectively.  It was a pleasure working with her.

My personal thanks to the members of this jury.  It was a privilege and an honor to work with you.  I appreciate your hard work and your efforts as professionals and now as new friends.

It is my pleasure now to present the awards….
